Horrible. They charged me for an oil change they never did. All because I would not agree to $2200 worth of work. This place was fine a year ago. No idea what happened but I will never ever go back

I was told that leaving reviews were pointless, but I know internet is powerful and so is the word of mouth. I dropped off the car Dec.31,2024. We diagnosed it at Honda beforehand and showed the parts that needed to be fixed/replaced at Pep Boys, White lane, Bakersfield. They accepted and we paid $975.72. The next day the car is ready. After a 3-5 minutes on the road, the check engine light appeared. The "check engine light" did not light up when dropping it off the car shop. Immediately we sent it back to the shop. The staff(David) tested it and suddenly the engine won't even start right and we have to push the car inside their car shop. At Jan 6,2025 is when we got the result of the car after constantly calling every day asking when the car would be ready. So many excuses. The problem of the car, told by the staff(Henry,) said there is a dark black gunk and kept simultaneously suggesting an oil change. Prior to dropping off that car there at Dec 31.2024, I was at Honda from having an oil change. Literally went straight to Pep Boys after the oil change at Barbara Honda. The staff communicates like I've been here, like I know what they are talking about. The staff kept explaining in circles but what I wanted was a solution! They kept saying they just replaced the parts and never touched anything else. If it was only replaced, why is the car not running anymore? The staff (Henry) mentioned that the VCT/motor broke, and YES IT HAPPENED INSIDE THEIR CAR SHOP WHEN THE MECHANICS WERE "REPLACING" THE PARTS. He(Henry) said he understand the frustration but could not give me a solution to fix the problem. The best they can think of is to take it to another shop that fixes the car's current problem. The staff mentioned it was near but did not even offered to pay for the towing. THEY REFUSE TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY! The whole conversation felt like, "Oh Sorry your car died and we can't fix it. Yes it broke inside our car shop when we were working on it but we are not going to take any responsibilities for it. You are on your own. Take your dead car somewhere else." My biggest gripe about this is WHEN I CAME TO THE CAR SHOP, THE CAR WAS RUNNING. After almost a week later, THE CAR IS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. The car can not be moved, only neutral. I have to call someone to tow my car out of their parking spot outside. We got back our car today Jan 7, 2025. We decided to just tow it back to our house until we can save up again. And to top it all off, there was some gasoline leaks on our driveway from the car. The staff could not even properly close/tighten it. WE LOST $975 FROM A CAR THAT IS RUNNING TO A DEFECTED CAR THAT JUST SITS ON OUR DRIVEWAY! We were not offered any compensation. No refunds. Staff does not care. They just wanted our car out of their way! The excuse was, "we did not diagnosed it, we just only replaced the parts." Ok yeah but the car is not running and it happened within your vicinity! They just refuse to take any responsibilities. Thank you for reading through my experience. If you also felt wronged, you can google BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU and file a complaint there. Let's make this right.

Worst repair shop in bakersfield!! Went in for oil change got home and realized my oil leaked out and immediately took the car back to them. Then they told me my oil filter housing was broke during the install but they didnt tell me when it happend .. only informed me once i found the problem. Then everyday for a week they said my car would be done by the end of the day and kept pushing it back and not telling me until the very last second of their day its not finished. Most unprofessional businees ive ever been too, they wouldnt even give me a receipt for the work they did , no work order or anything. please AVOID this specific location at all costs. Especially if you dont want uneducated mechanics working your car. My lawyer will be in contact soon !

Pep Boys is honestly really great overall. Every service I've had has been completed in a timely manner, clean and they use the best parts to get the job done right. They are knowledgeable and give you the options best suited for your vehicle. David and his crew were very helpful and professional. Pep Boys should be peoples one stop for it all.

Booked an appointment for 11am. Car did not get touched for hours. the walk-in services taking priority and the limited technicians meant a 4.5 hour wait to change 2 brake pads and I still walked away with a missing lug nut on my tire. Thankfully, I was able to come back and get the part out on the following week. TL; DR: appointment system is a joke.

David and Miguel were able to help us out very quickly after we had a flat tire on the interstate. They got us back on the road without a hitch in 45 minutes.

The team at Pepboys on white lane is unmatched. The care that David and Henry provided to my vehicle is world class. These guys deserve raises. They treated my work vehicle like gold, were quick with the diagnostic and efficient with the repair. I always thought Pepboys was on the expensive side. But backed by their customer service, knowledge of vehicles, warranty and can do attitude, Pepboys on white lane is the place for all your repairs!

Want to update as things changed very quickly for this location. Came in a while back and spoke with the Service manager David (A), just before closing and he still took my car in. I was having a slow leak that I just couldn't figure out. I couldn't see anything in the tire but it would still go low after a day or so. He was fantastic. Helped me figure out the problem with the car quickly and had his tech (Henry) fix it without issues. I got there just before closing, about 630 or so, and was out just before 7. Turned out I had a very small nail in the tire that we couldn't see at first. David let me know what was going on as soon as the tech had the car lifted and they found the leak via a water test. Fixed and left. That was a good experience, everything since then has been down hill. David is no longer at the company, and while the current guys are trying (they are good guys), they don't have the same level of knowledge or customer service I had last time I was at the store. The conversations I had the last few of times I have been to any of the pepboys in town, has led me to believe (with seeing it with my own eyes) that the company has some upper management issues and some serious issues with staffing. This isn't limited to only this store, as I just stated. Nearly every pepboys in town has some issues. All of it fixable, but for some reason, the upper management simply chooses not to fix things telling the guys to "figure it out" as I have heard him say at 2 different locations, when they ask for help or equipment needed for the shop (funny enough he had been at one location when I was trying to get AC work done at a different store, and at a different location when I was getting an oil change a couple months ago. Ive been to this location a few times with no real issues until recently. I go to different ones depending on my work and which one I am closer to). I recently came back to the White Lane store, for some additional work on my brakes, they are making some noise. I was there a very long time this time around, leading me to simply leave the car and get lunch while I waited, and it was still not pulled in when I got back over an hour later. I asked how many guys they had in the shop and I was told it was only 2. How can a shop run with 2 guys? After they looked at my car, they gave me a very high cost for the repairs. $290 per rotor, $68 for the front pads, $64 for the rear pads, and a high labor cost. The cost coming out over $1400. I asked where they get their parts, so I could compare costs, but before they answered a delivery driver from Autozone showed up to drop off some brake pads for a different car. I checked on their website and found that I could simply buy the pads for $36 and rotors for $55 each. I declined the services and left. I went to Autozone, bought the stuff for a fraction of the price and a simple Youtube video later and I saved well over a thousand dollars. Why should I pay double the price (at best) for Autozone parts? Later the company called me asking me why I declined the services, telling me that I need to get the services done as it was a safety concern. Basically begging me for business. The sign of a dying business is when they call you to beg for you to come back, using border line scare tactics, instead of relying on good customer service, fair prices and retaining talent with fair treatment of their employees. Take your money somewhere else. The combination of over priced parts plus the treatment of their employees is just bad business. I am not going to go into details about what we spoke about, or who I spoke with, but the way the company treats its employees is not good, and probably illegal.

I appreciated "David's" graciousness to help me out so late In the day when I had totally dropped the ball and forgot to take the car to get an oil change all day today. I also appreciate the faithfulness, and dedicated professional work of "Jose I." 👇 Who actually did the oil change in very effective and thorough manner. I DO NOT personally know these 2 gentlemen other than today, however, I'M GOING TO BE UPSET IF THESE TWO DEDICATED WORKERS DON'T GET A RAISE OR A PROMOTION!

I was driving home and noticed my car engine was overheating. Thankfully, this place was near where I was and drove as fast as I could and I’m so glad I did. I was super stressed and flustered because I still had a long drive ahead of me. David, the store manager, was so helpful and kind. He was able to figure out what was wrong within minutes. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. I will never forget my experience.

Always have had amazing service with Luis. Was disappointed that they had moved Luis from Niles location now they have a bunch of clowns running the counter., now I'm stuck driving out range just to have amazing service. I Will always choose Luis to be the only one to write up my vehicles always give the best recommendations and is always upfront. He definitely deserves a promotion & raise.

I needed to get my car inspection for lyft and they were fast and got my car in & out quickly. I went to pep boys on planz and I waited at tye counter for about 1- 15 minutes before I was helped by the manager. He asked me if I could come back in an hour so they could get caught up. There was 1 guy working on a car & the other one was mopping the floor in the service bay. I went to this location and I was only there for less then a half hour. Luis at Pep Boys is very courteous and professional. He changed the tire on our car super fast. Highly recommend this location. It’s affordable too.
