Took my son's 18-year-old Buick SUV to Nick today. What I had been told was going to be an $1,800+ repair at a different shop turned out to be $198 repair because Nick was the only one to pressurize the system and looked for the leak and he found it, he replaced the part, and fixed the problem. My son was very happy to hear that he didn't have to take out all of his savings so we could take his car back to college. Nick was very honest, very kind and very good at what he does. He's earned himself another customer. He was well recommended on Nextdoor and the Alton FB page, and now I know why!! I won't be taking my car anywhere else. Thank you Nick and Kinder Auto Repair.

I took my truck in for brakes and Nick did an excellent job! He found some bad sway bar links and got them replaced as well. He is very professional, clean cut, honest, direct, fair, and one of the best price in town. I highly recommend Nick Kinder and will take all my vehicles to him.

Amazing experience all round. Great communication and got my car fixed in a timely manner. As a person with little car knowledge he was able to diagnose and explain the issues well. He also pointed out future work that will be needed without using aggressive sales tactics that other mechanics are known for, very trustworthy and won’t scam you out of unnecessary work. Will definitely be back for any car services needed. Highly recommended!

Cannot recommend Kinder Auto Repair enough! I heard about Nick from a fellow friend and he was able to diagnose, explain, and repair my old Toyota that was making a terrible noise for months. Now it sounds great and I won’t go anywhere else for my car! Great service and price!

Had AAA tow my car to Kinder when the brakes went out. Turned out that rust had got to the rear brake lines and they were leaking. The car is 19 years old so it was time for replacement parts. Nick got it done in a timely manner for an affordable price and was very professional and helpful. Have always been happy with the work done on this car at Kinder over the past 10 years of owning this vehicle. It's still on the road because of dependable work like Kinder does.

It's priceless to find a repair shop who you can fully trust! Not only did they explain our options thoroughly based off of our budget for repairs but they explained in detail what exactly I did wrong when attempting to replace my own breaks so that if I would want to fix them myself in the future I wouldn't make the same mistake. Truly above and beyond and my mom and I couldn't be more thankful.

Nick is by far the BEST mechanic especially when it comes to a Jeep Wrangler TJ!! Ours had rust on the frame (which was typical for a Jeep made during this time, manufacture didn't put drain holes in the frame) and several other issues that our local mechanic failed to fix. We had accidentally found his number, called him up, and 3 weeks later my Jeep drives like new!! He has the best service and is super friendly. We can't say enough about this shop!!

Great guy and awesome mechanic! He listen to everything I had to say about what was going on with my car and had me bring it in to make sure what the issue was before giving me a price which was very fair. I appreciate that he explained what he did, showed me the new and old part to ensure no funny business, and made me feel comfortable trusting what he did. So far so good. I will definitely return if needed.

I’ve never been one to write a review, but after my experience with Kinder Auto, there was no chance I was going to skip sharing the amazing experience I had. As a young and unknowledgeable adult, mechanics just scare me. I brought my TJ Wrangler into Kinder Auto, which had been sitting for two years, and informed Nick (the owner) of this. Nick could’ve told me I needed an entirely new engine and transmission (original fear) and I would’ve believed him, but instead he told me that the condition of my Jeep was amazing and asked how I found it, as if we were family friends. When it came to repairs I did need.. I had been told elsewhere that my U-Joints were close to rusting out, so I asked Nick to replace them all and instead of doing exactly as I requested, he told me I only needed two replaced instead of all five, saving me money. He also went out of his way to restore the color of my fender flares instead of replacing them like I wanted to pay for, without even charging me for it. On top of all of this, he also let me bring in parts I had forgotten to mention earlier and made the time to install them for me! I can’t begin to explain how relieved I am to have found a mechanic that I’ll be going to for life. Huge thanks to Kinder Auto for not only fixing up my Jeep, but giving me the time of day to answer the thousands of questions I had been saving!

I found a pretty bad oil leak on my Civic on Thanksgiving but I couldn't see where it was coming from, so after debating on potentially messing my car up by running it to find the leak, I decided to take it to a shop which was hard for me to do after my clutch fiasco with another shop. Based on some research, I thought I had a faulty oil pressure sensor so I picked one up and had my car towed to Kinder Auto Repair with the replacement part in the cup holder. The mechanic(and owner I believe?), Nick, called me and asked if I had the issue diagnosed by another shop because he couldn't find any issues after changing the oil and running it for a while so it wasn't the oil pressure sensor like I thought. I told him when I drained the oil to change it my drain plug was loose, he said that it probably backed out and that the spray pattern indicated that was the likely issue. He could have just replaced the part and charged me for it and I wouldn't have known the difference. On top of that, he told me about a few other issues he found while inspecting my car and he was the nicest mechanic I've ever gone to. He ended up just charging me for an oil change and the inspection which I was more than happy to pay. If you need any auto work done in the metro STL area I highly recommend Kinder, they've been around for a long time and I can see why. They're nice, professional, thorough, honest and don't charge you for stuff you don't need (which shouldn't be a bonus, but unfortunately it is from my experience).
