James and his employees are honest, knowledgeable, detailed, and on time. For example, they made repairs in my cherry 2004 STS Cad that two dealerships and one independent told me could not be made. They find used parts that no one else can find. I drive four cars to them from Alpine in the East County, and they're worth that commute. My family feels blessed to have found James. Their shop is not beautiful but their work is.

I tried to give this place my business three times to service my BMW. I was told by two different people they could help me with in a third person said they couldn't be of any service at all. It was a complete waste of my time and I wouldn't trust him to work on my vehicle.

Tl;dr - Upfront about price, allow you to provide your own parts, less than 24 hour turnaround!! 👍 I was scheduled for an apt at the stealership when I found out the apt was only to drop off my vehicle and it would be minimum 2 weeks for them to replace an ALTERNATOR!! This obviously wasn't acceptable as I currently only have one vehicle and I need it to get to work. I called around to a few local shops and James Automotive was the only shop willing to work on my vehicle. Dealing with the other shops telling me they wouldn't work on it was frustrating since it (Polaris Slingshot) has the same engine and alternator as a Saturn Sky, Pontiac Soltice, Chevy Cobalt, Buick, etc., and the alternator removal and replacement is no different than any other vehicle. I dropped it off around 5pm and it was ready by noon the next day! James Automotive is now my first choice. It's nice to have a San Diego automotive repair shop that works on the Polaris Slingshot (this sentence is for Google so other Polaris Slingshot owners can find this place).

I had my transmission changed and they gave me a great price and also when my truck would not start James had the mechanic come to my house and was able to get it running I love this place and have sent all my friends and co-workers to them.

Paid for my transmission fluid and oil to be changed. THEY DID NOT DO THE WORK THEY CHARGED ME FOR AND TOLD ME EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD!!! Less than 45 days after said services my transmission stops holding gear!! MY CAR DIED IN AN INTERSECTION WHERE I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM MULTIPLE SIDES (TALK ABOUT SEEING YOUR LIFE FLASH BY) Myself, a friend, an insurance adjuster, AND TWO OTHER MECHANICS CONFIRM THERE IS NO WAY POSSIBLE WAY THAT THEY CHANGED ANY TRANSMISSION FLUID. (BY CHECKING FLUID/TRANSMISSION) WHAT WAS LEFT IN MY TRANSMISSION WAS 2 QTS LOW AND PITCH BLACK!!!! James himself (horrible service attitude every time I've talked to him even before this; NEVER ACTUALLY IN THE SHOP) refused to talk to me let alone honor their warranty so they will be hearing from my lawyers.

I've been here 3 times once for my mustang to get smogged. Had my water pump blow out when I was driving my truck took here to james and changed out and fixed in the same day. Great service. I won't go anywhere else but here.

Jame's employee Brian switched my new computer for my car with a messed up one. I had just purchased that computer and the one I gort back looks like it doesn't work. I'm taking them to small claims court for the cost of my computer.

Its hard to find a great mechanic and James is the best mechanic ever. He is reasonably priced and I have been going to him for a few years and referred many friends. He takes care of the problem and guarantees all of his work. I have a Chrysler 1994 LHS and he takes care of my care as if it were his own. All of his employees have been working for him for years and I have only had great experiences with all of them. I am a very very very happy customer and I would strongly suggest that you go there too if you are looking for an honest and great mechanic.
