The best mechanic in San Diego! Chris knows what he's doing. He's always been truthful with me, even when I had a car he could have kept limping along but he told me to ditch. His price for oil changes is fair. I strongly suggest you call ahead, even for an oil change. I've always gotten really quick service here. I won't take my BMW anywhere else.

First, I would like to say that they really are very professional about what they do. I have an old bmw which does not pass smog, and I went to a lots of shops, only Independent motorcars solved my problem. And those other shops are all wanted to rip me of from the beginning. I clearly remember a guy said that they would like to charge me 400 straight for just diagnosing, and 2.7k for replacing my o2 sensors. I am lucky that I got a chance to meet Chris. He pointed out the issue immediately by me describing the condition of my car. And he did not charge me anything for those advices which are extremely important because I fixed my car by taking his advice. Independent motorcars create an inclusive and warm environment for car enthusiasts to go. Those guys are not only professional, but also they are kind. GOAT.

This is my first time visit and I am very impressed with their excellent services and knowledge. They changed the oil for my benz E class 2020 quickly and effectively . The price was fair. The service was great, polite, fast, customer focused.. Compared to others, in my experiences, their price is honest and fair and work is done in time promised.

Chris & his team went above and beyond! Being new to the area, my 2011 Mercedes was giving me some strange issues. I took it to 3 mechanics around SD, none of which could diagnose an Issue and pointed me to the dealership. After hearing great things about Independent Motorcars, I decided to give one last go before spending an arm and a leg at the dealership. The team at Independent took time and attention to detail, diagnosing a car issue that could’ve ended horribly. They were so thorough, communicative, friendly and honest from first phone call to giving me my keys and advising next steps. They’re incredibly trustworthy and felt like family - which means a lot to me being new to the area and not very car-savvy. Worth the drive from a ways away, I will definitely be coming back to Independent in the future and advising anyone to go to Independent. You will not be disappointed.

Great shop! They hooked me up with a last minute service when I was in town and realized I desperately needed an alignment. No open slots for appointments, but allowed me to drop the car off, so they could work on it between customer appointments. Very cool guys! I Love race shops ran by enthusiasts!

I bought a car sight unseen from someone in San Diego. I spoke with Chris Keefer at independent motorcars and he worked very hard to make sure that when I flew down it was ready to go. The shop is absolutely immaculate and their work is perfection. As a former European shop owner I have a very high bar for other shops to meet. Independent Motorcars is probably one of the cleanest places I've ever had a car worked on. If you have a BMW or a Porsche… This is where you must go.

I found Chris through a client of mine. I could not be happier on his recommendation. I started taking my BMW 535i to him that has quite some miles on it. Whatever issues or services it needs, Chris will take care of it and not over charge at all. When I found out that the shop I used to take my Porsches too closed down, I called Chris and asked him if I could have him service my 911’s. He said absolutely and hired an amazing Porsche technician. I recently brought my 2016 GT3 RS for a major service and alignment with a suspension adjustment. I really can’t thank Chris enough and I am sending him all my friends and clients for their Porsches and German automobiles. He has a super clean shop and he charges competitive prices.

Took my car here once for a transmission oil change, routine service at 70k miles. I asked them to call me when filling the trans with oil. Left a note taped to the steering wheel as well. They did not. I provided the parts and they only used 4 quarts to fill up the ZF8 trans in my BMW M235i. I purchased 7 quarts with the OEM kit, but they claimed thats all they could get in. Fast foward a year and a half later when I decide to do it myself this time and I now understand why the transmission was whining when the car is under lateral load. Its because they didnt fill it properly. No wonder they only used 4 of the 7 quarts I gave them. Should have refilled with close to 6 quarts. The whole process felt rushed and like they get you in the door and then don't really care about much else after. There's a good chance if you're coming here you've probably been recommended by the BMW SD CCA group. I had a strange feeling when a few of the same people kept recommending this place in the fb group. Lesson learned, don't take advice from Facebook groups from people who don't know how to work on cars and who have a special relationship with the shop. Also don't use Independent Motorcars if you want the job done properly or mechanics that care.

Wow. I needed new brakes and rotors for both axles. This place is the best I have ever been to. From the first call I placed for a quote, to drop off and pick-up, I would recommend this place for all Mercedes auto needs. The best rate in town for Mercedes Benz brakes and rotors. Literally HALF the price of the dealership and other certified shops. This place beat pep boys prices, mieneke, etc. The service here is 1000% better too. The lobby is huge, clean and modern. Super comfortable areas to lounge or even work on your laptop if you need to. Chris talked me through the process on the phone and he was there when I dropped off and picked up. They even called to say I didn’t need pads on the front. This place can be trusted completely to do the right thing for their customers. I will not go anywhere else and I will recommend this place to all friends and family since they are certified to work on BMW, Audi, Porche, etc., and have immediate availability/ same day appointments. I am glad I called around and did the research to find this gem. If you are wondering if you should hire this auto shop, stop looking, you found your home.

Great experience. I called to set up a time to drop off my 987.1 for the short shifter upgrade. They gave me the quote, and I stayed in the shop as they did the fix (really nice inside!), which took about two hours. Chris was exceptional at providing clarification for my questions. Highly recommended, will be back.
