I highly recommend Will to anyone looking for solid Toyota or Lexus mechanic in the Central/Eastern parts of NC. I traveled from North Raleigh to have Will work on my 2004 TRD 4x4 3.4L Tacoma. Despite it being the holidays, and Will recovering from an injury, he quickly inspected my truck and worked with me over 2 separate phone calls to help develop a plan to complete the requested services on my truck. Quality of work : great Timeliness: great Fair price: great Customer service: great This shop has the pedigree I was looking for in someone to work on my 20 year old truck. I will be a return customer when the need arises.

I took my Toyota Highlander to Will after I'd been getting what felt like the run around from another mechanic that was telling me I was looking at around $3000 in repair work. Will came highly recommended and I'm so thankful I took my car in to his shop. He gave me a straightforward diagnosis of what was actually going on with the vehicle and actually fixed the problem which cost a small fraction of what the other mechanic was trying to charge. So here's my recommendation for what seems to me like a real honest trouble shooting mechanic that you can trust. If I need work done in the future I'll definitely take my car back to Helms Automotive.

On September 2 2024 while en route from Winston-Salem to Durham, an irresponsible truck driver in front of me had not bothered to secure his load and a box flew out into my path leading to a scary incident with my car running over several hollow heavy metal cylinders about 1-2 feet long and ~10 inches in diameter. It sounded terrible and caused the car to shimmy and skid. I checked Google and arrived unannounced at Helms Automotive at 112 Winola in Greensboro. If I could give William 10 stars I would - without hesitation he put my car up on the lift and inspected it for damage. He invited me to see (in the company of his trusty assistant Roxy) for myself that all was well and he quickly fixed a small issue with the oil pan cover. This was the best impromptu mechanic experience I have had in my many years and hundreds if thousands of miles driven. What an outstanding human being and business!!

This place is AMAZING! Extremely thorough, honest, straight-forward. Took my 2002 4runner to Will for a bumper to bumper review and he gave me a detailed run-down of what repairs and updates I should consider making to the vehicle over the next few months in chronological order with pricing! I can't recommend his business enough!

I spent hours researching local Toyota/Lexus mechanics online and discovered Mr. Helms's shop through Reddit. He is a man of honesty and integrity. While I prefer to DIY as much as I can, I'm not a mechanic. I own multiple older Lexus vehicle ranging from 1997 - 2005, ranging from 147k - 427k miles. There is not a single shop or individual I am willing to trust my vehicles with over Mr. Helms. I only wish I discovered him sooner. Note/edit: there is a shop in Winston (TLC) that also specializes in Toyota/Lexus. I have called that shop multiple times over the years and never heard back once.

Our 2008 Lexus RX350 check engine light and VSC light was on for a while. I hate Flow Lexus customer service,their lies and high $180 hourly rate. While Googleing Lexus repair shops,Mr. HELMS pop up with good reviews,so I took the car to him. I received, very honest,detailed explanation of what was wrong with my car,how the problem effects the performance and the way he is going to fix it. I repaired it quick,at reasonable cost and presented me with damaged part after repairs where completed. I highly recommend him and his service and will take our Lexus there again in the future. Please take all your Toyota and Lexus repair needs to HELMS for very good and reasonable repair. Stay away from the dealers and save yourself money while supporting individual repair shops like HELMS.

Gordon from Gibsonville here. First time I brought my Lexus hybrid Mr Helms answered all my questions. He's a straight-shooter, tells you the truth, honest and capable. Mr. Helms was patient with me answering both questions on the phone and in person. A well organized shop and garage and one gem of a find for my household's automotive care. I needed a transmission oil change and it was done on time and correctly. I highly recommend Helms Automotive for any Toyota / Lexus work. You cannot go wrong with this place.

I could not he happier about finding this place. A good friend told me that Mr Helms was the most honest person she knew. That was good enough for me. I had two vehicles that needed servicing and was getting the run around on one of them. Mr Helms diagnosed the problem and fixed the 'service engine soon' light. He could have easily charged me more and I would not have known but he didn't. I asked him to look at a wheel bearing issue too. He explained why it was the tires and not the wheel bearing. He also was EXTREMELY flexible about getting my cars to his shop. I could not be happier. Plus his shop has a really nice waiting area.

I took my car there to have a water pump and timing belt replaced, Will had a quote for me very quickly, I scheduled the work to be done on Wednesday and got a call Wednesday afternoon that my car was ready. Helms automotive is a business that actually does what he tells you hes going to do, which is so hard to find these days. Helms automotive is definitely my go to shop for all my Toyota/Lexus needs.

The Toyota hybrid system has a long track record of proven reliability. However, there are particular service items that are unique to the hybrid system and require specialized tools, fluids, and know-how. Helms Automotive has all three. My servicing was done right, done quickly, and at a fair price. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Will was fantastic to work with - friendly, honest, and professional. I brought in a Hyundai Elantra with the check engine light on, and he diagnosed the problem quickly. I made an appointment at Flow Lexus; I waited approximately 3 hours for a diagnostic test and was encouraged to pay through the nose for an OEM part I didn’t even need before further tests could be run. I lucked up and found Helms Automotive Service and Will Helms diagnosed the issue within half an hour and I was back on the road, minus the damaged purge air valve hose. I highly recommend him.
