I have to give these guys a 5 star review just because they were willing to talk me through an issue I was having with my truck. Most mechanics don’t do this in my experience, most just say bring it in for diagnosis as soon as they feel your trying to pick their brain. But not these guys, they’re willing to actually help. I’m calling these guys if I ever have a problem I can’t figure out myself

Got a catalytic converter and o2 sensor replaced here. They're priced reasonably well and seem to be an honest bunch. It's hard to find a good honest mechanic now a days, I would definitely recommend Chris and his team.

Superior customer service! All the guys were so very kind! They were fast and very fair affordable pricing. I'll definitely be coming back for all my automotive needs. They blow any competition away!! I was able to call and have an appointment scheduled right away before i was going out of town. Only needed a maintenance service but they are awesome!!

I can't say enough good things about the whole team over at Gene Brown in BrookHollow. From the moment I walked in, Cris made me feel like they genuinely cared about giving me the best service possible. Unlike many shops, he took the time to fully explain what was going on with my car and helped me understand which repairs were truly necessary and which were not. They went above and beyond to source parts at the best price, and they even gave me options to fit my budget without sacrificing quality. Their honesty and reliability stood out to me the most. There was no pressure to approve unnecessary repairs or services, which I greatly appreciated. It's rare, very rare, to find an auto repair shop that values transparency and customer satisfaction over profit, and Gene Brown is truly a gem in that regard. Highly recommended to anyone looking for an honest, customer-first auto repair experience.

I have had a good experience with Gene Brown's transmissions. They changed my transmission fluid with no problem. Chris, the Manager, said I had an oil leak When I went to Valvoline, I was a quart low! Excellent work!

Wonderful transmission shop! Took our box truck first to another shop for a scheduled repair and wasted an entire day when they said they ordered the wrong part but in reality just didn’t get around to doing the job. Called and talked to Chris and they promptly fit us in, got it repaired within a day. Loved their professionalism and affordability. I’m a fan and will definitely be back. Thank you!

Chris and his team figured out why my bmw x1 was blowing white smoke out of the exhaust. He communicated well, was very personable, and fair pricing. I highly recommend him for any car issues. Was taking my car to premiere1 but will now take it to Gene Brown.

Chris was awesome. I had an error code on my 2017 Nissan Titan XD. After taking it to the dealer, the dealer wanted to charge $10k for a new transmission. I called Gene Brown Transmission and discussed the error code with Chris. He researched the code and told me what the probable cause of the error code. I had the dealer make my truck drivable and took it to Gene Brown on San Pedro. Chris and his team took pictures of the transmission pan and showed very little shavings. He quoted the parts and repairs and saved me about $6500. I did not need a new transmission, only the speed sensor, which was part of the transmission valve body. Chris and his team are straight-up and honest. I will be taking my truck there from now on.

My first-time using Gene Brown Transmission at the Brook Hollow location. I own a Land Rover LR3, which is typically a vehicle most mechanics will flat out refuse to work on. I went to Gene Brown on the referral of a Land Rover specialist due to possible transmission failure issues. I was already feeling a little stressed at the potential cost of a replacement for a Land Rover transmission, but going to a new mechanic was also stressing. From my first phone call, it was clear Chris not only deals in a very honest and transparent manner, but knows Land Rovers, sharing some initial thoughts on what was causing my issues, and didn’t feel it would be as dire as I might be thinking. Chris kept me updated during the diagnosis process, and figured out my issues were caused by an incorrect type of transmission fluid another shop had used along with not following the correct fill procedure, resulting in a low level. He recommended a drain and fill, along with a conditioner for a fraction of the cost. While in the shop he noted the Check Engine light was on, which was checked at no cost. The codes indicated my vehicle needing new Catalytic Converters, which I had already been told by a Land Rover specialist would cost approximately $4,000 but was ignoring because it didn’t have a real effect on the drivability. Chris didn’t think I needed new Catalytic Converters, and instead recommended I first try a specialist BG44 fuel system cleaner, plus a full tank of Premium gas, which might address the check engine. Guess what, I followed his advice, and my problem has been solved for about $60. I was facing thousands of dollars in potential diagnosis and repairs from a “Specialist” shop for unneeded work and would have never known I was being ripped off, unless going to Gene Brown. Hopefully it’ll be a while before I need to have my vehicle worked on, but when I do, Chris will be my first call!!

Had an issue with our Infiniti QX70 transmission not shifting beyond 3rd gear. Cris had our car picked up from our home and quickly diagnosed the problem. Unfortunately the part was expensive and on back order. It took a while to fix, but Cris and team fixed the issue as soon as the part arrived and at a reasonable price compared to what the Infiniti dealer was going to charge.

Cris and his mechanics are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend them. Cris is very nice and super easy to talk to you and explains everything to you especially if you don't know much about cars. I'm sending him another one of my vehicles for transmission work.

I have used Gene Brown on brookhollow for some time now. I used to take my old car there and received nothing but top notch service! Cris and his team kept me going for 17 years in that car before I decided to sell it. While I have not needed his services since buying a new car for a few years, something came up and the first place I thought of was Cris at gene brown. I absolutely did not want to take it to the dealer and leave it for 2 weeks or until they got around to it. Cris ordered the part I needed, called me when it came in, then gave me a ride to & from his shop and installed it in just under an hour…how great is that! I wouldn’t take my car anywhere else. Cris and his team are the best!

The mechanics at this place know their stuff and walk you through every piece. I had a clutch replaced on an '89 Jeep Wrangler and received text photos the entire time to update me on progress and for the option to have additional work done. The end result was quality work at a fair price. I recommend this place to all my friends and family.

I’ve been traveling to San Antonio on a project there. My 2007 tundra started to act up this past weeks trip. Loss of power and heaviness I what I felt. I ended up at Gene Browns. They were very helpful and got me back on road fast! Final cost $450. They saved me!!!

THEY WILL HOLD YOUR CAR HOSTAGE This has to be the worst mechanic shop I’ve run in to. Not only will they take your business they will hold your car hostage before anything is done. Everything they have touched has messed up in one way or another is asinine to believe they are competent. A company should get your vehicle in when next in line. Not this place you will see tons of work trucks getting done well before your vehicle because that’s the steady income. Then when your car comes around it just so happens it needs more work done on it. They over charge and like to think they push their weight around. I will never take a vehicle to them again.

This shop and the people are top tier when it comes to customer service and repair. They were transparent with me the whole way and even helped me with options when my transmission went out. As anybody who’s had to pay for a transmission can tell you, it’s a stressful experience but the guys here without a doubt helped me through it.

I am a teacher and had major issues with my car. I have to have transportation as a single mother, I don’t have any other way to get to work. I called Gene Brown on a Friday night to leave a message and Cris answered. I told him my situation and he had me bring my car in the next morning! He promised to get my car fixed and even offered me transportation to work. He graciously fixed it for a reduced price and I was able to get back to my life! He is amazing and very knowledgeable. I will always go to him with my car needs from now on. He does it all. Transmissions are what he is known for but he does it all. Thank you Gene Brown! So many of us need support! You sure supported!

Chris at Gene Brown Transmission has done a great job for me everytime. I have had both my daughter’s vehicle, and mine repaired here. We are so very pleased to finally have a person whom I can trust and speaks openly and honest about the repairs that needed to be done. He troubleshoots the problem thoroughly to ensure not to replace parts that don’t need to be replaced. I am pleased with the work that Chris and his team has done for me and my daughters.
