I was referred to Emerald by a family friend to have work done to my 2013 Honda Civic that was "recommended" by Honda. I initially went in for a second opinion and he did recommend the changes such as serpentine belt, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and coolant replacement. I brought my own transmission fluid and serpentine belt and was expecting the same price as the Honda dealerships, but it turned out to be $300. Gary was kind enough to replace the serpentine belt for free!!! I can't recommend Emerald enough.

Pulled up at 8:45am to get my side mirror checked out from a hit and run incident yesterday. I saw some minor cracks and wasn’t sure if something could be broken mechanically so figured I should get some quotes at a couple spots. The owner of the shop took a look at my side mirror, asked if I still had the shell, and popped it right back on while telling me “it’s not worth buying a new part,” given that my car is new and the part was going to be $$$. He also double checked that my mirror controls were still functioning, and sent me on my way. Just to sanity check, I also got a quote from the Toyota dealership after for $1379. Grateful for the mechanic’s honest review and service to save me a ton!! I wasn’t able to put on the shell myself because I thought I might crack it more, but I was out in less than 5 minutes and he didn’t take any payment 😅 Thank you so much Emerald Auto! You made my day

Gary is a crook— I brought my vehicle a few months back because of an oil leak. I was told that he needed to charge me 2 hours of diagnostics to pinpoint the problem. Happily agreed to that to pay for the man’s time. However, after him throwing all these parts in my car I spent thousands of dollars and the car was still not fixed. The funny thing is that my car was still leaking after I drove out of his shop. I eventually drove back to my hometown with an oil leak still present 1 hour away from San Francisco. Brought it to another reputable shop that I always go to, he fixed it and I got my car back within 2 days. No more oil leak present. The problem was coming from my oil pan gasket which they misdiagnosed. These guys are problem part changers, they don’t do real diagnosis work! I would avoid at all costs.

I cannot say enough good things about Gary and his team at Emerald Auto. I brought my car here after another shop over charged me and failed to figure out what was wrong with my engine. Gary was able to trouble shoot and figure out the problem. He repaired my car quickly and at a very reasonable price. They also did a great job on my brakes. If you are looking for an honest, reliable mechanic, this is the place to go. Thank you again, Gary!

Gary is probably the best mechanic in the city, honest, reasonably priced, and good at explaining what's going on with your car. Would definitely recommend even if he's not the closest mechanic to where you live.

Great, talented and honest mechanic, thank you Garry. My car engine started humming and the sound got worse when I steered the wheel, and I knew it was minor or at least any talented mechanic can listen and figure out the issue and possibly bring it in for a repair. I went to 5 top shops between Hays valley area and sunset area, they all wanted to schedule diagnostic for $150. Garry was the only one who from the minute I parked at his garage, he said, steer your wheel, open the hood, let’s add oil and see, and boom problem solved complementary (at no cost), in 5 minutes. Definitely Garry will be my long lasting Mechanic from now on. And luckily, I live only a few blocks away. That is customer care at its finest. Thank you Garry!

Had great experiences here. I have been taking my car here for a few years now. When my mom drove accross the country last year with a visit planned in SF en route, a check engine light came on a couple hours out of sf. We were able to get her car in, get it back up and running safely for her return trip.

It's never a good idea to not return a potential customer's phone calls, especially when they're interested in your services, but they also know that they could easily go to another auto shop, which I did! A company not returning a person's calls is a sign that they don't want your business!

I’m not one to post reviews, but I have to for Emerald. This garage was recommended to me by a friend who is a SF Local. I went to Gary when I got my catalytic converter stolen. Twice. He’s straight forward, honest and doesn’t gouge you. He doesn’t try and sell you on other services or smooth talk you.
