Friendly, quick, down to Earth, affordable and good automotive maintenance and repair work. I've heard that service quality has suffered with a recent management change, but have not confirmed as I haven't been to DMS for a long time.

I just picked up my car due to it making a whining noise on the driver side as well as the brakes were giving an air sound. The shop checked it out and noticed that a rock was lodge around the brakes / rotor area. Used an air compressor to blow and clean out which appears to have done the job. The brakes were ok. This shop was Honest about the issue and didn't attempt to charge for an unnecessary service! I truly appreciate the transparency and honesty!

I have a long relationship with this garage. It used to be owned by Sam: it was more expensive than some, but trustworthy and quick. Sam has now retired and ownership has changed. It is no longer trustworthy. I took my car in for a simple tire patch. The charge was $25, which is considerably higher than tire shops in the area, but I needed it done quickly and reliably on a Saturday. I was called shortly after I dropped it off, to let me know it was done. It was a critical repair, since I was literally leaving right after on a 500+ mile road trip. The tire had a lot of vibration in it on the trip, so I took it for a balance when I arrived in NC. The nail was still in it. No patch. The fix a flat liquid was still in it, which is why it had the vibration. Plus, my handicap placard had been removed from the car. So, I was charged, it wasn't fixed (and probably dangerous), and they stole my handicap sign. I will be reporting this to the state. They also did not give me a receipt, which they are required to do, but fortunately I have the call recorded when they told me the car was ready.

I’ve been coming for years. I moved from Tennessee to the Detroit area, and can’t find anyone here that works on foreign cars. Had my Acura, VW and Kia all serviced and repaired by Kal and Sam. Great service and even better people.

The only car shop I trust!!! I’ve been to so many other repair shops and have been upcharged so many times. I started working in corktown recently and happened to stop at Downtown Mobil for help with some issues when my engine light popped on.. it was a seamless and stress free experience! The owner and employees treated me like family. They didn’t try to add on unnecessary fees and costs. It’s now my favorite and only mechanic shop I will visit! Thank you downtown mobil!

These folks really seem to care about the work they are doing and are no-nonsense when it comes to getting the job done. Our Chevy Volt had front-end noise - it was quickly diagnosed as a bad bearing and they had it back to us in five hours with the problem solved. Friendly owners / mechanics. Pricing seemed on par with other reputable shops.

Edited 3/2024 New manager (Ali) is keeping this auto repair shop running smoothly! As someone who grew up with only Sam doing maintenance on cars all I can say is they picked a great person to take over! From 2017: My family has been going here for years! Honest repairs and honest prices! They are good people. Everyone is friendly and they will go above and beyond for everyone who walks in the door!

I'd give em zero stars if I could . I simply asked them to flush my brake lines and fix the e brake shoe on the rear passenger. My car came off that lot SHAKING and making grinding noises Went to another place in midtown and within less than half the price they fixed the brakes and saw that this mechanic had left a screw in that was pushing the rotor and wheel out, which also knocked off my brake pad hardware with all the shaking. ZERO stars. Go to north end auto repair.

I've been bringing mine and my mother's car here for a while. Sam the owner has always done right by us. He's honest and prices are fair. He recently retired and there's a new owner. I haven't had work done since Sam left so I will have to see how he is.

Sam is the best! Reasonable prices and fast service. He did my front suspension, heater hose replacement and oil changes. Honest and professional. When you find a good mechanic, you'll always come back!

Went in because my right front wheel was scraping, they looked at my car the same day and didn't charge me anything when they couldn't recreate the problem. I expected at least a diagnostic fee and was relieved when there wasn't one.

Really solid option, they're so helpful, quick, and very reasonable in pricing. Especially as a solo female who doesn't know a lot about cars, they answered all of my dumb questions and took care of my car with no issues at all so it's such a relief to find somewhere trustworthy to go. Highly recommend!

used to love this place and recommend it to everyone, sadly Sam isn't around as much as he used to be, which is totally out of anyones control and I hope he stays healthy. The people running the shop now are awful, they don't listen when you tell them what you need done, even if you say it in plain english multiple times, new dude is sketchy and i'm sure stole parts off my friends car, the guy running the shop says they've done things to the car before even though we know they didn't. No longer trust this place enough to bring my car there even for a check up.
