My daughter has a truck in Boise for school. It wouldn’t start so took a chance with Dowdy’s Grove St m as I’m out of the area. Outstanding job diagnosing and repairing the the problem (relay). Special thanks to Justin for keeping me informed, good guy straight shooter. Oh and they were fast with this despite being a drop in w no appointment. Thanks!

IF YOU NEED ENGINE WORK, DON'T GO TO DOWDY'S!!! Beginning of October I was on a cross country trip when my Jeep's engine started having issues and didn't seem like it was going to last much longer. I took it in and was quoted $6700 for major engine work including but not limited to timing chains, sprokes, cam shaft, tensioners, rocker arms, lifters, ect. I wasn't suprised by this given some of the known issues with this partiular engine. Since they were a NAPA shop and it would all come with a warranty I figured it should all be good. WRONG! After having all that done, my engine was completely dead 1200 miles later! I was in Nebraska at this point trying to get back home to Virginia, it went to another NAPA shop to get checked out in which they told me it needed a new motor at a cost of $10,000 since neither NAPA or the Dowdy's was going to cover it. Having just spent $6700 I didn't have another 10k just laying around so I did what I could to get back home. I ended up having to spend another $3500 on rental car, hotel, additional shop fees, and to have the jeep towed home, which is still sitting in my driveway with a dead motor. During all of this I had been in touch with the manager Justin on all of this to have NAPA cover it under the warranty, I was told it would not be covered unless a tear down of the engine was done and proven their work was at fault. Since this time I have found/learned numerous reasons why either the suggested repairs were not correct for my suitation, why when the engine was apart proper evaluation wasn't done, or just the work wasn't done correctly. 1) When I broke down by the side of the road I was looking under the good and found multiple missing clamps and nuts on the outside of my engine, so who knows what might be missing on the inside 2) Had multiple quarts of oil in my air filter, which indicates a major issue 3) I contacted 6 other NAPA shops to see who could do a tear down and inspection to try and get this covered by warrant. What I found out was that not one of the will take engines apart, as truely taking apart and working on an engine is a very different beast then just replacing one, which is why most shops are really just replacement shops and not repair shops. 4) All 6 of those shops also told me given my suitation and what issues they had found, they would of only offered to install a new engine, as there is to many potential issues with just replacing the damaged parts. Other option was a complete engine rebuild but none of these shops do that as it requires milling machines and other expertiese that Dowdy's clearly doesn't have 5) Justin had told me they had 3 other cases like mine this year, which tells me this is work they shouldn't be doing Through all of this I tried to stay level headed and see what kind of solution could be found. Which wasn't easy since I was having to constantly chase and follow up on it to see what answers there were from the conversations with NAPA and Dowdy's managment, which assuming these even happened since I was never involved with those coversations. I wasn't even persay expecting a full replacement of the engine at this point, but some kind of compensation given that my engine only lasted 1200 miles after being in their shop. But the end result was Dowdy's basically saying "We're keeping your money, and sucks to be you". So here I am a little over 2 months later still with a dead Jeep in my driveway, and having to work to pay off the over $10k debt I occured so I can spend another $10k to get my Jeep up and running for real this time. What really makes this worse than having basically thrown away $10k thanks to Dowdy's, is that if they had told me I need a new engine like all the other shops did I would have a working Jeep with a 2 year warranty on the motor, which if it failed would be replaced for FREE! I hope this review will help someone avoid the hell I went through.

I purchased a used car from a owner that used Dowdy 's. Since they had done all previous service, I went in and introduced myself and had them continue with matenance. It has been a fantastic experience! I now bring my daughters car to them vs using the dealership. Great people, great work! They do all the things you want when having your car looked at and make you feel comfortable in explaining mechanical jargon. They also have great technology inplace for communication, providing feedback, recommendations, and easily approve work from your phone.
