Don is the best. As a woman in the city, it’s tough for me to trust people with my car. Don has always been very fair with pricing and is very communicative along the way. I thought my car was done for when eats chewed something up but he didn’t give up and found and fixed the problem. He always is able to squeeze me in as well. Highly recommend!

AVOID DON’S AUTO AT ALL COSTS. This place is the definition of shady, unprofessional, and disrespectful. Not only did they ruin my car, but they also had the audacity to gaslight me into believing it was my fault, and wouldn't guarantee their work. I took my car in for a simple brake pad change and inspection. When they gave me a return call (which I had to specifically request), they said I needed a new brake drum and spring, but I couldn't completely understand them because they don't speak English well and rushed me on the phone. I said "fine" Big mistake. When I went to pick up the car, they slapped me with an almost $600 bill. The owner’s wife smugly told me it was a “good price, such a deal,” and had the nerve to suggest I should be grateful because “it should have cost more because it’s an older car.” Absolute nonsense—I’ve never been charged that much for brakes and inspection. And upsold on top of it. But wait, it gets worse. On the drive home for Thanksgiving, the car started wobbling on the highway at speeds over 60 mph. Like the whole car was actually shaking, and it felt totally unsafe! This issue never existed before. So I took it back to Don’s to ask if they could take a look at it. Their response? “Not our fault.” They denied they had any hand in it and couldn't tell me why the issue was happening, then quoted me over $100 for a tire rotation to “fix” their mess, but weren't sure if that would fix it. I decided to think it over and told them I’d pick up my car later. When I arrived to get my car, they had parked it on the street. As soon as I went to unfold the driver’s side mirror, I realized it was completely broken, loose, and bent backwards. It was fine the morning I brought it in, and I personally saw them pull it into the garage without issue. This means one of two things: they either broke it intentionally or left it unfolded in the street for someone else to break. Either way, the result was the same—now, if I accelerate too fast, it limply folds into the door, and if I brake, it's falls to the front. It's totally loose. I immediately called them (I mean I immediately called them, not five minutes after I realized the issue). I was stressed and frustrated. I was met with the same dismissive attitude: “You shouldn’t have driven it away. We can’t guarantee it now.” Are you kidding me? What kind of shop doesn’t take accountability for damaging a customer’s car? I drove back again, only to have Don avoid eye contact for 10 minutes and repeat the phrase, “If you drove it away, it’s not my fault” and saying "Pepboys would do the same" Once he was done gaslighting me, he offered to tape my mirror up as a “solution.” Yes, tape. My mirror is still broken. I’ve been left with nothing but frustration and an unsafe vehicle that still wobbles on the highway. Don's is a joke. My car was perfectly fine before I brought it there. They don’t stand by their work, they don’t respect their customers, and they will leave your car in worse condition than when you brought it in. Do yourself a favor and take your car somewhere else.

Do not come here for your inspection, they will take all your money! Pros: very quick, super efficient Cons: he charges 5 times the costs and adds stuff without your permission. I originally came for an inspection sticker, and Dom told me he couldn’t give me an emission pass without changing my brake shoes. He told me it would cost me somewhere $300-$400 and I accepted and left my car yesterday. This morning, I came to pick up the car and paid $725 bc he told me he added springs and cylinders($195 each) while he was changing my brake shoes, which we never talked or I never agreed on , never received a call about it. Also which later I realized they come as a pack anyway ($85 alltogether) when you order brake shoes. So I paid almost 5 times the cost!!! Thanks, I won’t be back.

I was new in PA and went for an annual inspection and a tire repair. The guy there did a sloppy job leaving many scratches on my tint when they applied the inspection stickers. They could’ve been more careful or coordinated with me when the first obvious scratch appeared. So disappointed. I chose this shop because of many recommendations. Now I have to pay about $400 to repair and reinstall my formula one tint. Update October 18, 2024: I gave them a call today and wanted to discuss the scratches on the inner side of the windshield where they put to stickers. After a second look, I recently realized the damage they did was not only on the tint but also on the windshield. The lead staff picked up my call and he was very rude. They made a mistake, messed up my windshield and tint, and they gave me a terrible attitude. In the end, before that man hung up my call, I had his words saying if there are actual scratches on the windshield inside after I take off the tint, I can go find them. So I’m making an update here as part of evidence.

Everyone was friendly, service was fast and efficient. I will only ever come back here for service on my vehicle as long as I live in Philadelphia. *Adding to my review 4 years later*- I can confidently say Don’s is still THE best place to bring your car. I recommend them to everyone I meet in Philly with a car. I came for an inspection today. I called the night before and they recommended I give them a call on my way in the morning so they can help me get around some road closings. I did this, and was given perfect directions. The inspection was quick and easy. Seriously, if you’re not coming to Don’s, you’re doing it wrong!

Great service and experience at a fair price. I scheduled an appointment, ran 30 mins late, but they were still able to get me in and out within the hour for a vehicle inspection! I was also really worried about getting shaken down for unnecessary work by private inspectors (I come from New Jersey, land of state vehicle inspections), but had no problems whatsoever here. Very honest—I'll bring my business here in the future.

The reviews don’t lie. I took my car to Dons Auto solely because of the great reviews he had. I am not from Philly and was shooting in the dark trying to find a mechanic. Don fixed my car super fast. I told him my budget and he did the work with money left over. Awesome shop! Super honest mechanics that try to help you instead of profiting off you.

Don's is great, every time I've brought my car to them for work they have diagnosed & repaired the issue faster and for less than I was expecting. You just need to understand it's a smaller shop, so you may have to wait a week before they have availability. Though, I would rather wait a week for a repair I can trust, then be able to drop off my car right away but need it brought back multiple times for the same issue. tl;dr Don's is great, just call ahead.
