Terrible Experience - Unethical Charges and Unnecessary Service I recently moved to the area and needed to register my car, so I was referred to Chimney Auto by the DMV for a simple inspection. I made an appointment, and while the manager Juan was friendly at first, my experience quickly turned sour. During the inspection, I was told my car failed because of an "air leak," and the manager recommended a diagnostic to figure out the source of the problem. I was hesitant but agreed since I needed the inspection to register my car. The manager also pointed out that my check engine light was on, but I specifically told him it was not on when I arrived. When he asked if I had any concerns, I mentioned we’d just added oil the day before, but I had no other issues. I received a call later saying the car was ready, and they told me the problem was simply that the oil cap wasn’t screwed on properly, causing the air leak. I thought it was a minor mistake and assumed I wouldn't be charged much, especially since I had told them the check engine light wasn't on when I arrived. But when I spoke with the manager, he refused to waive the charge, stating they had performed a full service and would charge me in full. Here's where it gets really frustrating: The manager told me they drove my car 18 miles. This made no sense to me because I know that a loose oil cap would trigger the check engine light temporarily, and simply tightening it would reset the light. Instead, they chose to drive my car for miles, which seemed like a deliberate attempt to make the light go off before charging me. The manager acted as if driving my car 18 miles was such a huge favor, but to me, it felt like a scam and to justify on charging me. I went in expecting to pay a small fee for a basic inspection ($25.50), but I ended up with a $175 charge for something that should’ve been a simple fix. I feel completely taken advantage of, and I won’t be coming back. Extremely disappointed of my first experience of a car service in Houston.I would not recommend this place to anyone. I will be reporting this to the business bureau for unethical practices.

I paid $150 for a diagnostic and received everything else but a proper diagnostic. They wanted an additional $150 after being Quoted for $3,500 worth of services. Waisted money. When I picked up the vehicle I had to ask for the explanation of what was going on instead of them explaining what the result was of the “diagnostic” report. The mechanic seemed more interested in closing up the shop than helping me with my vehicle. Was a very unfortunate experience.

I went to this place on the recommendation of a person that used to work here. At first I was very excited to have them work on my car. However, the more I went the more I felt like I was being taken advantage of. I believe what started out as a healthy relationship with the business turned into something that ended up costing me a lot of money, time, and frustration. I took my bmw m3 e46 convertible here a lot. I had the transmission replaced as well as the convertible top replaced. There were more repairs but I do not remember. I myself do not have any experience with automobiles but I had the means to pay for all my repairs. I believe the owners were under the impression that I would do anything to fix my car and I believe they took advantage of that. Upon my second to last time bringing my car in they allegedly fixed what was wrong with my car but when I drove to the beach later that day something broke and it didn’t make sense to me that it wasn’t taken care of preemptively. The owners acted like they had no idea what was wrong with my car after I told them about it and despite my long relationship with them they did nothing to remedy the situation. I sank thousands of dollars into repairing my car only to not be taken seriously. I would strongly advise anyone who seeks to have work done here that they do what they can to hold this shop accountable. I believe they have the capacity to fix most vehicles but I find their business ethics and practices very questionable. I’m still very upset about this auto shop to this day and it’s nearly 2025. Do not go here.

Went to get a quote for a replacement for a wheel hub on the driverside only and was told the labor is over 900 dollars and said it was a 5 hour job. That's ridiculous! I can do the job at home and it may take me 5 hours cause I'm inexperienced but a shop? This place is extremely expensive.

Seems like a honest shop. Disclaimer they do charge you $151.50 to even get into the door. Good customer service with after hours drop and pick up. However they turned my car away for “excessive rust “ on the under carriage. I took it to another shop who laughed at the idea of turning the vehicle away and ensured me it was safe to work on. The shop still had me charged for 151.50, I understand it’s policy but other shops won’t charge you if no work was conducted. Overall it seems like a good place - would likely go there again if they were willing to work on my vehicle.

Rude to me when I came in asking basic questions to see if they could help me the day of. Came at 4 pm told me they close @6 pm and couldn’t help me and that it would be $100 just to do a diagnostic test when it is offered free at other places right next to this one.

They were very fair in their pricing for the repairs on our older Jeep Wrangler. Excellent communication. I will definitely do business with them again when I need car repairs.
