Had an issue with my car door that was draining my battery, and the owner fixed it right away, he was super helpful and chill. One of the easiest mechanic experiences I've had! Will be coming back and highly recommend!

Kirk always explains what needs to be done, suggests what preventative maintenance you might want to have done. He is very fair with pricing. I would recommend Avalanche with no reservations.

Wow! Avalanche is amazing! Kirk got me in the week that I called for an oil leak. He was very knowledgeable and helpful! He explained what and where the leak was. He taught me about the things he was fixing and didn't talk down to me at all! He also took the time to show me where on the car the leak was and what to look for! He was quick to respond and gave a more than fair price! I will definitely be going back!

Someone wanted to buy my low miles used car and got it checked out here. I run a fleet of 40+ vehicles and restore classic cars and this place was way below par vs the 2 shops I use. The shop was a mess, stank like BO, and had open fluid containers all over. He was wearing shorts and sandals which was a red flag. He couldn't find the paperwork in the pile of old food, trash, and clutter all over the bench. This guy here was massively unprofessional, rude, and would switch demeanors and tone in a way neither of us liked at all to talk down to my girlfriend every time she spoke. He chewed me a new one and then some like a kid - that I was selling a car with a code throwing - basically it would cost like 2ish grand to fix an emissions item that did not affect performance and I had the paperwork from my preferred shop showing that. He thought I should throw that money down the drain for no reason other than turning the light off. Anyway, I had discounted the car a lot and everything to account for that and this guy made it his mission to chew me out and talk the buyer out of the sale, not knowing I'd discounted it, also it wasn't his business anyway. Funny thing is, is I had 3 little things on my shop's report that he missed because he didn't actually inspect the car physically which he admitted, he just plugged in it to get the codes and did a poor job of even that, as he couldn't tell anyone what they meant. Long story short, he did a half try inspection at best, misdiagnosed an issue as serious when it wasn't causing any noticeable issue, shop was a mess, he missed multiple things, he was very unprofessional, and very rude, and torpedoed the sale. The now ex-potential buyer and his girlfriend also said they would never go back after the experience he'd had there as he felt it was also below par. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. I know 3ish of the 4 of us wrote bad reviews over this and they keep getting removed or not being published publicly.

Great experience getting a brake job and new battery for my 2015 Acura RDX. Kirk did a great job, had good communication, and pricing seemed fair and reasonable. I’d def return if I need a mechanic in the future. He got me in pretty quickly too (under 1 week)

Have used Avalanche for quite a few repairs. I've always found him to be trustworthy and perform good work. There have been a couple times where I had a concern that I brought to him. He took a look at the vehicle and told me it was nothing to worry about, and he ended up being right. It is very nice to work with a mechanic that you know will not perform unnecessary repairs and will give you an honest answer regarding what work needs to be done.

I hate to write a negative review, however I believe my experience was bad enough that it is warranted. I brought my car in to get a wheel bearing replaced which I was intending on doing myself due to it not being an incredibly difficult task. Sadly I was rather busy and figured it would be easier to just bring it in. Kirk's communication was less than ideal. I spoke with Kirk on the phone 5 times. Every time I called. This was slightly annoying but acceptable. The true tragedy of my visit to Avalanche Auto was when the car was finally finished Kirk charged me 25% more than I was originally quoted. This was an upsetting surprise. I payed what was asked even though almost 600$ is absurd to replace a wheel bearing. Kirk is the owner of his shop and that is admirable I would hate for him to loose business. This being said I believe there are much better local shops in the Bozeman area. If you use Avalanche Auto I recommend talking to Kirk in person if you would like to be treated like a person.

Kirk always seems to have the time and space to squeeze me in his schedule. I respect his opinion, and he saved me from buying a car with several hidden problems. The only reason I took a star off is because he sometimes is not available during his posted business hours. If you leave a message, he will get back to you most of the time.

Kirk seriously got me out of a bind! My uhaul wasn’t reading my lights and I was leaving the next morning for a cross country move. Kirk was so helpful with diagnosing the issue and Kyle drove across the valley to pick up the parts to get me back on the road! The customer service, and professionalism was top notch! I would recommend them over and over! I left feeling so confident to get on the road! This was the best case scenario to have called them!

Definitely do not go here. Kirk quoted me a $900 repair to replace my front struts, even though I was having no issues with my suspension whatsoever. When I told him I was going to get a second opinion he was very rude, and did some weird passive aggressive things to my car when I went to pick it up (messed up my seat adjuster, parked it in a snow bank with the lights on even though his whole parking lot was empty and clear). Low and behold, the second place I took my car to found nothing wrong with my car. Clearly just trying to take advantage of people.

Kirk, the owner was very friendly, and walked me through the steps he had to take to fix my car. I was able to get my car in right away, and it was ready to go two days later. I highly recommend Avalanche, and will absolutely return in the future.

Terrible 2 experiences with an owner who has no customer service skills (or appreciation). First time... we rented a uhaul online in November... and showed up at the right date/time/location to no truck... was rudely told uhaul corporate systems are difficult and we'd need to go to another location several miles away to get the truck we reserved. Second time... rented a uhaul today for an hour to move Christmas decorations to a storage unit. He was rude about uhaul corporate being firm on price when I inquired about a discount... and was downright nasty about "parking in front of the bay doors" for literally 5 minutes BECAUSE HE COULDN'T PULL HIS OWN CAR BACK IN THERE TO KEEP WATCHING FOOTBALL ON A SUNDAY! I was overly pleasant and understanding... for awhile before telling him exactly what i think. Maybe he's an amazing mechanic,.. maybe he have other stressors in his life...but I'd literally drive across the country to avoid having to interact with him ever again. So much for montana values and customer service prioritization. Steer clear.

Rude and probably incompetent owner/mechanic. Do not dare ask any questions related to the service you're paying him for unless you want dismals resembling that of a toddler. Do not waste your time nor money at this establishment.

Called at 6:30pm on a Friday and spoke to Kirk. He was willing to patiently help me diagnose my car's issue over the phone and offered an appointment the next day. So grateful for them being open and the kindness demonstrated!

Kirk is really nice, really patient, and most importantly excellent with our cars. I refer all of my friends to him. Despite having owned two lemons in the last year, he has helped me squeeze every last bit of "lemonade" out of them. 10/10 would recommend.

My interaction with Kirk was short and sweet, but I did walk away feeling like he gave his honest opinion and did not overcharge me, and did the proper amount of investigating before giving me a rundown of what he thought was going on with my vehicle. I definitely did not get a "out to make a quick buck" vibe from him. His one-man-shop was clean and not overly cluttered. I would trust him with my vehicle again.
