I visited Akins shortly after dealing with a poor experience with a mechanic at another shop. The first mechanic diagnosed my check engine light as a catalytic converter issue. He claimed to confirm this by removing the O2 sensor and running the vehicle—supposedly with no problems. After waiting a week for parts, he installed the new catalytic converter, but the issue persisted. He then re-diagnosed it as an ABS module problem, replaced that part, and returned the car. About three weeks later, the check engine light came back on, with codes indicating an oxygen sensor problem. When I confronted him, he conveniently denied any connection to his original testing. Finally, I went to Akins, who proved to be professional, direct, and—most importantly—honest. They fixed the faulty oxygen sensor that the previous mechanic had caused, and I haven't had any issues since.

The best mechanic in the area! Tells it like it is. Diagnosed an issue in 30 seconds pretty much with "eyes closed". Same issue couldnt be resolved by other highly rated mechanics in the area for months, even after i've pointed to a potential part at fault. It is no wonder this shop is so busy, while others are light on workload.

Had to make an emergency trip up to San Jose for my brother in law's car overheating, they took care of it, explained issues that could potentially arrive during diagnostics, swapped out parts and double checked and was able to return the car to us so I could pay and head back home in time to go to sleep and work the next day. Price was fair, cheaper actually than I expected (especially for San Jose prices). I honestl reccommend these guys. Car is running good and brother in law can go back to school and work.

2024 update - Still the best. Above and beyond. Honest pricing. My best experience of all Automotive shops I've taken my car to to period ! They are very honest and get the job done to perfection. Their moved to a new location with a clean new garage and repair area with ample parking at the back. Pricing is transparent and they don't try to 'con' or rob you like the dealers and other body shops. My first experience with them was for a brake job for both axles. They recommend top quality brakes and provided a reasonable quote. Have been super happy with the new brakes with zero issues. Now I go here regularly, even for routine oil changes. Would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get honest and reliable auto services.

I have been going to this auto shop for 3+ years now for oil change and filter replacement and more. Prices are great and work done on my car in an hour or less from their great team for my typical car maintenance. Always satisfied with doing business with Akins. Update Dec 2024: Still the best! Update 2024 5 stars again. Nothing less! Update 2022: I was there for an oil change today and wanted to check if there were any additional services needed. Akin quickly did the oil change and then checked the car to report no additional work was needed. Still the best. Akin and his team are very honest and hard-working. Love supporting them as a local business and an ethical one. Thanks, Akin! Update 2020: This place is simply the best car mechanic shop ever! They have moved to a new location (still in San Jose, at 351 Keyes St) which is way bigger and service is still amazing. If you want honest, trustworthy, knowledgable and friendly service: please take your vehicle here. Both Akin and Aydin are very helpful and straightforward in their communication. Don't be intimidated by guys in the shop! They talk fast and seem aggressive but they are the best shop in San Jose. Theyll never over charge you on anything, have great rates and prices, and will only fix what is needed! Ive been coming to these guys for a few years now and don't plan on stopping.

I like this establishment by two brothers. Always honest with their clients, good service and competitive rates. I like the honesty aspect the most and as such this review! I have been their client for past five years, I used to drive all the way from Berkeley and 40+ miles away just to get my service here. I blindly trust them. In the car business, can you find such a place? I have found one. All you need to do is give him the key. Everything will be taken care of automatically, including charging you the lowest possible amount. I did my break work with them and I’m giving him more business because of this fact. And for that reason, he is always always busy! Thanks and be well.

I wish I could leave a 6 star rating. Tired of Firestone's upselling, I wanted to try a local shop. From the moment I called, Akin was honest and helpful with informing me what could be wrong after I got a check engine light. When I got my car to the shop, he never once pressured me into agreeing to any services. The quoted repair cost was extremely reasonable and far less than Firestone. I haven't even picked up my car yet, but I was so happy from this exchange that I wanted to leave this review!

Today was my first time visiting Akins, and I chose this shop because of the great reviews I read online. I’m glad I trusted those reviews because my experience here was truly excellent. The staff was incredibly honest and transparent with their pricing, and even though my car needed a battery replacement, they didn’t push any unnecessary costs on me. The service was efficient and fast, they arranged everything on the same day since I came in early. Their pricing was reasonable, with no extra costs added on not like those car dealers who just want to rip you off. The repair quality was fantastic, and I felt very well taken care of. I will definitely come back if I need any repairs in the future, and Akins will be my go-to shop from now on. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a trustworthy and reliable repair shop!

One if not the most honest mechanic in the Bay Area. You really can’t go wrong with him. Just make sure you do an appointment because he’s well known and gets busy every day or you can try and see if he can squeeze you in.

This is my preferred auto shop for maintenance and repair. I just make an appointment for what I want, they do the job and I go home happy with smoother ride. No bullshit with selling services that I don’t need and costs inflated prices.

Well, today was a first in customer service. In trying to find a place my 100 year old dad could get his car in ASAP for a computer diagnostic for his engine light came on as Malfunction. I called a few times and did not want to leave a message for I would be leaving soon. To my surprise with caller ID the person saw that I had called several times. Even though I did not leave a message HE called me to my shock .. Wow thats customer service to call me even when I did not take the time to leave a message. could of just said to heck with this person. But he did not, He could not get my dad's car in for a couple of weeks, But he was kind enough to recommend another 5 star shop. Which in talking to them the car in going in. So ask yourself how often does a business take the time to call you by caller ID and to recommend another shop. If their caring is as good as this , I can only imagine how amazing the car service is. give them a call
